Case Study Background

Eden Valley Mineral Water, operated by Roxane UK, is a high-volume mineral water production facility located near Carlisle. The site plays a critical role in bottling and distribution operations, requiring robust monitoring to support health and safety, operational oversight and future expansion.

Roxane UK engaged Northern Security to deliver a modern surveillance upgrade capable of supporting multiple users across different departments. The new system needed to provide full coverage across buildings, service yards and car parks, while introducing advanced safety monitoring within high-risk operational areas.

The Solution

Northern Security partnered with Dahua Technology to deploy a high-spec, centralised surveillance platform built around DSS Pro V8.6. The upgraded system enables multiple users to access live and recorded footage through DSS Client and the DSS Agile 8 mobile application, supporting health and safety monitoring across the site on a continuous basis.

Approximately 150 IP and PTZ cameras were installed across the factory, service yard and car parks, incorporating both WizMind and WizSense technologies. High-resolution bullet cameras provide consistent coverage across external areas, while 8MP fisheye cameras were deployed within factory buildings to maximise field of view and allow detailed inspection using real-time dewarping through DSS Client.

Two 128-channel WizMind NVRs were installed within the server room, delivering a total capacity of up to 256 video channels. These recorders connect directly to the DSS Pro Server, enabling centralised management and supporting advanced AI functions that significantly reduce search times through human and vehicle-based filtering.

A key element of the project was the introduction of a customised speed detection solution within the service yard. Using Dahua ITC413 cameras and bespoke radar signage, the system monitors vehicle speeds against a strict 5mph limit. When a vehicle exceeds this threshold, the system generates an event that includes vehicle speed, registration plate details, snapshot imagery and a supporting video clip, which is immediately presented to DSS users through the Event Centre.

The system has been designed with future expansion in mind, allowing additional cameras and functionality to be introduced as the site continues to grow.

The Result

The completed system has delivered a substantial improvement in site-wide visibility, usability and safety monitoring at Eden Valley Mineral Water. The transition to DSS Pro has provided a more user-friendly experience, enabling faster access to high-resolution footage and more efficient incident review compared to the previous legacy system.

AI-powered recording and metadata searching have reduced investigation times, while permission-based access ensures different departments can view only the areas relevant to their responsibilities. The speed detection solution has added a further layer of safety within the service yard, providing real-time accountability and supporting safer vehicle movement around operational areas.

Feedback on the customised speed detection solution has been highly positive, particularly in relation to its accuracy and the speed at which events are delivered in real time. The project demonstrates how Dahua’s advanced VMS, AI-enabled cameras and tailored safety solutions can support health and safety priorities within demanding industrial environments.
